What is Claire's House?Claire's House is a ceramic studio and shop in Bury St Edmunds. We have 8 pottery wheels and hand-building tables, along with lots of ceramics equipment and materials; including two kilns. We offer lots of different classes and workshops in our space - check them out here Our shop is filled to the brim with the beautiful work of local artists and makers along with other small businesses based in the UK that have the same unique and creative style we love. We are open Weds - Sat 10-4 but always open online!
-
Where can I park? There is on street parking on the surrounding roads for a maximum of 2 hours (Paid at the pay point or using RingGo) Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm, Sunday and bank holidays 1pm to 4pm, Tuesdays free from 3pm. Alternatively there are several larger carparks in the town for longer stays, the closest is Ram Meadow which can be found here.
-
What do I need to bring to my class? There's nothing you need to bring - we have aprons here but would advise you not to wear your best clothes as ceramics can get messy!
-
Can I bring my own refreshments to a class/workshop?Feel free to bring your own drink/s to the studio for your class (please check with us first if you are considering bring alcoholic drinks) We don't allow any eating in the studio - clay and food don't mix very well!
-
Can I glaze my taster class pot?Yes! You can now glaze the pot you made during the taster class with our brightly coloured underglaze selection. We will then cover your pot in a transparent glaze to seal your pot ensuring it is food safe and waterproof.
-
Can I put my ceramics in the microwave/dishwasher?As the pottery is all fired to 1240 degrees it is classed as safe to be used in both microwaves and dishwashers, however like all handmade items, we would suggest hand washing to ensure your items stay looking their best! It is at your own risk if you wish to put items in the microwave, as we have not tested the safety of this (although it is something we do in the studio!)
-
How long will a custom order take to make?We will always try and put an estimate time on a quote but please keep in mind a single piece of ceramics can take 2-3 weeks to produce due to drying/firing time. We would much rather produce the highest quality work, rather than rushing work through to be hasty! If you have a specific deadline though, please contact us for more specific information.

Wholesale availabilityPlease contact us directly with wholesale enquiries about items from our shop or bespoke items you are interested in. I have a detailed wholesale item/pricing list available that I am happy to mail out which will also include batch sizes I am able to produce and turnaround estimates. As a rule I only usually offer wholesale within the UK, due to high costs of shipping abroad, therefore pushing up the wholesale cost considerably. However, if you are interested from outside the UK, please do feel free to enquire about postage costs.
-
How quickly will my item be shipped? What shipping methods do you use?We always aim to dispatch goods in 3-5 working days. If you need a speedier delivery please contact me directly and we can confirm if this is a possibility. We generally use Royal Mail 48. Large/wholesale orders we will automatically send tracked with a courier. Unfortunately we only post within the UK currently.
-
Do you offer gift wrapping? We do! Please add a note a checkout or email us hello@claireshouse.co.uk and we can wrap your gift and send direct to the recipient.
-
Returning an itemPlease refer to our RETURNS policy page for more detail on returning a purchase. Regrettably we cannot refund classes booked but we can look to exchange for an alternate class/date/time.
-
What if my item has been damaged in delivery or is delayed/lost?Damage: this is a very rare occurrence - thankfully - but if your item arrives damaged please immediately take a photo of it and the packaging in order for us to be able to make a claim for the damage. We take a great deal of time wrapping all our items with several layers of protection to try to ensure you item reaches you safely but if this doesn't happen we will always replace damaged items. Delay: on some occasions delivery takes longer than expected, please be patient and give items 3-4 weeks minimum, before considering it lost.

What do you mean by 'hand made'?Our in-house ceramics (and some makers items) are classed as hand made. The beauty of these items is that each piece is an individual every time. This might mean slight differences; for example in ceramics: clay colour, pattern detail, slight size variation and glaze finish. We hope, like us, you will see this hand made nature a joy and celebration of the artistry involved in creating it!
